My evaluation will be based on the first version of my cover
and what I have done from the corrections I received which would improve my
work if I used them. The parts of my magazine cover I should correct were
decided through peer assessment. Some areas of this that are easier to solve is
watching tutorials and practising skills this I am going to achieve through
finding and watching tutorials as suggested but also by attending the visual
master class by the school.
I was told to improve my logo so that it is a lot neater and
I have done this by ungrouping it into the separate parts and shrinking the
inside part which means there are now no edges that are visible outside the
second part of the logo. This effect makes the magazine front look professional
because it removes the amateur mistake so it looks like more time has been
spent on it and that a lot more effort was put into it. Now that this has been
changed readers are more likely to buy the magazine because the front cover now
matches a consistent theme which is what all businesses should be promoting to
their consumers. This professional cover makes it more likely that people will
purchase the magazine.
As well as the logo something which I changed was separating
one text box into three; this helps to not overwhelm the reader with too much
information. When all the information is in one text box it can be overpowering
to the readers because all the information is collected together instead of
being spaced, this can seem aggressive as it attacks the reader too much.
Having the information spaced out does not drag the attention away from the
rest of the cover and distract from other items such as the main image, which
is there to gain interest but it becomes useless if the affect is hidden by
other parts of the cover.
Even though I have made these changes I could not alter the
masthead to work for my magazine the way it was suggested because I was unable
to add a background that would not cover key parts of the picture. I tried
positioning the masthead in other areas however I could not move it somewhere
that would work and I could not fade the background without fading the text
which caused more problems because this made it difficult to read and so I
decided it would be better before. Maybe I will learn how to do this in a
visual master class lesson and could try to change the text colour so it stands
out more, the problem with this would be that it is difficult to find a colour
to suit it and go with the rest of the cover because I will need to make sure everything
works together.
Although I have successfully made sure that that the colour
scheme suits the school and matches up so that it links with both. This is
important because a reader who knows the school will find it relatable to them
and this will interest them to continue with reading the magazine. The issue
with colour is that the background uses similar colours to the magazine because
of this theme and so it is difficult to see some of the writing which as I have
mentioned I currently cannot fix.
I will need to make sure that in the future I learn how to
do certain techniques which will help me to progress through the course and be
able to edit in new ways that I will be able to transfer into my media work.
These will help me to also understand media and technology such as Photoshop so
I can become more confident with it and learn what to do in the future with
this computer software and others. I have successfully demonstrated that I know
how to make some changes to my magazine cover and to correct aspects of my work
so I can further improve by using resources to my advantage such as neatening
up parts of my work to present it more professionally.
